LOWELL, Mass., and WESTON, Fla. | Managers have a major impact on employees’ productivity and engagement, as well as other factors that create a great place to work such as building trust, fostering open communication, and caring for employees as individuals, according to a new global study by the UKG Workforce Institute. However, managers also report the highest levels of burnout at work, underlining the critical need for more organizational support in order to be the most effective in their roles.

LOWELL, Mass., and WESTON, Fla. | After a seasonably slower start to 2024 in January, February featured a holiday surprise and workforce activity increased 0.5% to push the labor market in a positive direction, according to the February 2024 Workforce Activity Report published by UKG.

LOWELL, Mass., and WESTON, Fla. | An analysis of high-frequency shift work data from UKG shows the total number of shifts worked in the retail sector on Black Friday 2022 declined 5%, compared with 2021. The decline mirrors predictions leading up to the shopping holiday, which indicated that inflation, coupled with continued growth in online commerce, would prompt traditional brick-and-mortar retailers to temper staffing amid shoppers’ changing preferences.

LOWELL, Mass., and WESTON, Fla. | The UKG Workforce Activity Report for October 2022 shows the total number of shifts worked1 by people at U.S. businesses decreased 0.9% since September 2022 while the monthly index dropped half a point to 97.1, reflecting a steady cooling of the labor market entering the fourth quarter of 2022.

Marketplace | Dave Gilbertson, at payroll processor UKG, which by the way is a Marketplace underwriter, said, “This high-frequency data is literally how many people were working as of just a couple days ago.” UKG tracks hourly workers punching in, mostly in-person service and production workers.
