Innovation Credit Unit had been managing its HR processes with manual, time-consuming spreadsheets that prevented the company from tracking employee progress on HR-related tasks, sharing information with managers and executives, and creating efficiencies. Innovation Credit Union sought a human capital management (HCM) solution that would enable the company to establish an integrated talent management plan and control administrative costs — and selected the UKG Pro® solution.
"We develop annual goals for all employees — regardless of position or department ― that focus on our balanced scorecard, company values, and our employees' personal development," said Kathy Irwin, Manager of People & Development at Innovation Credit Union. "With UKG Pro Performance Reviews, we were able to create these company goals as assignable goals and push them out to the entire organization with the click of a button.
"Management was excited by this new, simplified process that ensured that our corporate goals were worded identically for all staff," Irwin noted. "We were also able to create assignable goals specifically for our retail positions, approximately 60% of our workforce, substantially reducing the amount of time managers would normally spend building and manually entering goals. In addition, Pro's ability to push out goals in an editable state enables mangers to individualize goals if necessary."
Irwin reports that UKG Pro Performance Reviews solution has given the HR team greater involvement in, and insight into, the performance management process for the organization's 420 employees. HR is helping managers with goal setting to ensure that the goals of their direct reports add value and reflect the strategic direction of the organization.
"We have built our strategic initiatives right into the Corporate Goal area of Pro and requested that managers link employee goals back to these strategic initiatives, so that employees have a direct line of sight to the company's overall strategy," said Irwin. "And, for the first time, HR can view goals from every manager's team, allowing us to work alongside managers to optimize this process.
"In addition, we can run quick reports with Pro to see if any employees have a goal plan where the total weighting does not equal 100% and make adjustments to those plans as needed," she explained. "With UKG Pro Performance Reviews, HR has been able to elevate the quality and efficiency of our process."

In addition to strategic growth, Innovation Credit Union has been able to achieve a number of measurable savings with Pro while improving the employee experience. Irwin identified benefits enrollment as an example, noting that the company is among the first Canada-based customers to go live with the product.
"Innovation moved to a new benefits provider and included new benefits offerings to employees," said Irwin. "The change of benefits providers would typically require a very labor-intensive process, such as ensuring that all dependent information for each employee was captured, and working individually with employees to elect benefits plans."
With UKG Pro Open Enrollment, the company created a simple, efficient experience for employees and reduced the time required by benefits and payroll administrators to complete the transition by more than 50%.
"We substantially reduced the amount of paperwork necessary for changing plans and the time spent on manual tracking," said Irwin. "UKG Pro Open Enrollment also enabled HR to customize the messaging to staff, allowing us to share meaningful benefits information and help staff make informed elections."
