While Independence Day may be Saturday, all eyes in the business world are locked on Thursday: That’s the day the Department of Labor will release the June unemployment report.
Here at Kronos and Ultimate, we’re continuing to closely track the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on shift work trends throughout the U.S.

Some improvements of note in June
We’re encouraged by the improvements we've analyzed during the month of June. This month’s total volume of shifts worked grew by 5.9 percent. While slower than the month of May, we’re hopeful this will translate into an improved employment outlook for June’s unemployment report.
Here are three more stats from the Kronos U.S. Workforce Activity Report you should know before Thursday:
- 2.4: The percent increase in shifts worked by U.S. employees for the most recent week of June 22-28.
- 13: The number of states still experiencing or now surpassing an average of 100 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents per week as of June 29.
- 59: The percentage of shifts lost during the COVID-19 pandemic which have now been recovered.
