Pandemic-Fueled Labor Shortages Intensify Talent Crisis in Manufacturing

LOWELL, Mass., and WESTON, Fla. | The resilience of manufacturing is unwavering — but not without struggle. A study commissioned by The Workforce Institute at UKG finds that, although many manufacturers are emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic on solid footing — with more than half (54%) achieving year-over-year growth — a mounting skilled-labor shortage threatens to delay the sector’s full recovery.

UKG Workforce Activity Report: April’s High Frequency Shift Data Tempers Expectations of Above-average Employment Growth

LOWELL, Mass. and WESTON, Fla. | High frequency data from UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) shows shift volume decreased 0.3% during April’s critical mid-month week utilized by the Department of Labor to calculate employment changes. Given this, UKG’s Workforce Activity Report indicates much more modest job creation in April compared to March.
